Meeting at Roger's Square

Party meet under strange circumstances in the Roger’s Square and prevent the assassination of high priest Albert by Z’mote acolytes. In the confusion X’eythrell kills Cal the Firm. Albert is at a lost without his strongest and most capable warrior-priest. The death will be a major setback for the church. Albert offers the roguish band an offer to gain access to the legendary home of the Matron. A mission that would originally have gone to Cal. In return they will provide the church relic, Roger’s Bone.

The party is given an old scroll that contains the means to create a charm that will allow the party to bypass the Matron’s many magical defenses on her home. The scroll had been given to the church on the death bed of an aged follower. In his youth the anonymous follower had been a consort of the Matron.

Session 3
Raid on the Purge Clan

The ragtag band of adventurers meet up back at the church during the day. They decide to pull off the job for Oz Bach. But, also check in with the Silent Hand thieves’ guild to make sure this errand won’t cause the party any problem. The Silent Hand seem curious about the Purge Gang, but offer no resistance to the party running the errand.

Late that night Gunderic “The Vandal” Guerra is sent by the Oz Gang to the Black Cat Inn. This pugilist performer has ran afoul of Oz Bach’s gang and needs to make amends for not giving their cut of the profits. The performer has been instructed to lead the party to a boat that will allow them to reach the island hideout of the Purge Clan and their new leader Sheel.

The party disembarks in the wee hours of the morning on the high tide. They pole their skiff out to the island where the Purge Clan use as their smuggling den. The clan turn out to be a misfit band of Bullies (frogmen) and serpentfolk muscle. Negotiations with the clan take a sour turn and the party engages the clan on the docks. The party manage to overpower the superior numbers of the clan. They find the clan has been smuggling the sought after Karry birds. A luxury pet with heavy import tariffs. The party are confronted by Sheel and her bodyguard. Both turn out to be more than they appear. They are infected by some arcane parasite that has burrowed into their skulls. The creatures are dispatched. With the tide going out soon the adventurers take the day to rest and search the island. The party discover the clan’s smuggling records and a cache of gold. Also discovered is a badly decomposed body of a woman with modest but middle class clothing. They are unable to determine her identity. They hand over the prized birds to Oz Bach, while secretly keeping the gold from sales. They show Lynne the head of the infected woman creature. She sneers at it and tells the party to burn the head – denying she has ever seen such a thing before – the party nods silent assent but does not burn it. For proving themselves to Oz they are handsomely rewarded. Oz deeming them worthy of better equipment for future jobs.

Session 4
Death In Sol Rasa

Back at the Black Cat Inn Maxwell Boon has rejoined the group. He conducts a medical examination of the parasite. He discovers that the parasite kills the host. The insect like creature devouring parts of the brain while connecting its feelers to the eyes and nervous system.

A small group set off to meet with Kilborne, a notorious fence on Wall street. Maxwell Boon has used him as a contact over the year. The professional criminal says he can discreetly get the amber they are looking for in 3 days for 300 gold. The party agree to the price after showing that Kilborne will face a tragic fate if he betrays their trust.

Arykos is watching the street while perched atop a nearby building. His alert bird senses catch the sound of claws on a metal roof near by. Investigating he spots a small lizard humanoid dropping over the edge of the building. He pursues it to the alley and discovers its hiding place. The pint sized creature attacks him with its teeth. Avoiding the attack, Arykos kills the creature with a single blow. The thing disintegrates. Leaving a puddle and broken potion vial behind.

Meanwhile Padric “Paddy” Hull reports to the Silent Hand on the events surrounding the Purge Clan. He leaves out no details (except for how much money they found). The guild messenger seems astonished by the report.

On their way back to the Black Cat Inn they all pass various town cryers. The Emperor has announced that a great fleet will be built with technology improvements learned from the South Seas. The ships will be built and stocked in Sol Rasa over the coming year. This fleet will restore travel to and from the old world. The cryers also report this evening there will be a curfew and fog. The fog a magical creation used to subdue the town during times of unrest. The Emperor perhaps suspecting news of a new expedition will open fears about the old world.

That night the party investigates the fog and discover that is drifting down from the north. The mist has a foul odor like old food and very thick. It only covers the lower areas of the city and avoids the most wealthy neighborhoods. They also believe the fog is created through alchemy. Perhaps some substance interacting with the darker swamp waters to the north.

Under the cover of this fog a small army of mechanical beasts attack the party at the Black Cat Inn. At first glance the creatures appear to be giant snakes, spiders, and scorpions. But, smashing them reveals they are clockwork constructions powered by alchemy. In the struggle E’tchay Mockttor is killed by a mechanical scorpions. The creature striking him hard with its claws before injecting him with a lethal poison.

Samson demands the party leave his inn. He is fearful they are putting him in harm’s way with their actions. The party decide to leave before dawn. Arykos and X’eythrell hang E’tchay Mockttor’s body from the gallows in Cutthroat Square. They leave a note for Oz Bach in his mouth. They see it as a replacement for the “Eyes” animated corpse they destroyed when first coming to Low Town.

The party is suspicious of the Alchemist guild due to their connection to the fog and the attack occurring during the curfew. They also want to know who could able to create mechanical creatures like the ones that attacked them. The poison in the creatures was very potent and they aim to track down its source.

Padric “Paddy” Hull goes to inquire with The Silent Hand connection about the poison. He is greet by Vonnegut. Vonnegut informs Paddy that The Silent Hand controls most of the poison trade in Sol Rasa. He dismisses any suspicions considering the poison used by the mechanical snakes and insects. He does acknowledge elusively knowing about the existence of mechanical creatures in Sol Rasa. Vonnegut quickly changes the subject. The Silent Hand wants to know why The Purge Clan’s local point of contact is still alive. The party reported the whole clan destroyed. But, Mari has been seen in the city. And she made all the Karri bird deliveries despite the party saying they handed the birds over to Oz. Vonnegut in a threatening tone asks Paddy to find out more about Mari and her secrets.

Session 5

The band of adventurers meet up Low Town’s Market Square. Dala Mo’or (of Silverpines) decides to speak with her gossipy aunt Mina Tirnith about Mari. She heads to her aunt’s home on Row Lane. Dala is greeted at the door by her aunt’s aged manservant. He leads her to her aunt, who is taking her early afternoon tea.

Dala learns from Mina that there is a lot of talk about a series of mysterious murders in the Alchemist Guild. The murders started just over a year ago and has left the guild in turmoil and paranoia. She learns that Mari does work for the Houses of Lorde and Stevens as a maid. Dala convinces her aunt to provide a letter for Lady Zinka Stevens. A letter that would allow Dala to pay the royal lady a visit.

Meanwhile, Maxwell Boon and Filruel Mizzrym are searching for a new place to stay in Low Town. In the warehouse district they come across Kaz the Fishmonger, who is renting a space above his shop. The shop is used to butcher fish and bottle their organs for medicinal according to well accepted folklore. The space rents for 30GP a month. And only requires a 15GP deposit. It has metal shutters on the windows and a heavy reinforced door. It had been previously used as a secure warehouse. There are three rooms to the layout, but no peep hole in the door the party notices. Maxwell agrees to take the space and receives 4 keys for the door. Filruel becomes a bit obsessed by the rat holes in the space.

There is a heavy knock on the door. When Maxwell opens it he is assaulted by a massive caliban barbarian. The caliban pushes him inside and a brief struggle occurs between them. The barbarian introduces himself as Rayc. A former traveling companion of E’tchay Mockttor. He had been trying to find his friend but instead found his corpse on the gallows in Cutthroat Square. He tracked the party down to this part of town. He wants to know who killed E’tchay and joins the party in hopes they will lead him to the responsible party.

They lock up and head back to Low Town’s Market Square to meet up with Dala. Dala is introduced to Rayc. And they discuss what she found out at her aunt’s place. The party is undecided on which lead or suspicion to follow up.

On the way back to their apartment they realize they are being followed by three heavily cloaked figures. One is standing tall while the other two are hunched over. The party heads into a twisting alley and set an ambush at a turn in the small alley. They can see shadows stop at the mouth of the alley and then move on. When Filruel looks around the corner he realizes one of the hunched figures is standing in the alley. It begins to move towards him. Filruel ducks back behind the corner. The party ambush the figure. It is surrounded by a ghastly stench that nearly overpowers those who engage the creature up close. The party manages to easily overcome the horror and its claws.

Under the cloak they find an animated corpse with filed teeth and filthy claws that can rend flesh. It is covered in mysterious chemical burns. A strange brand is discovered on its forehead. And its tongue has a stitched parchment usually found in the mouths of Resurrected.

Before midnight the party sneak back to the gallows to recover It’chy’s body for proper burial. At the gallows the party is ambushed by more of the chemically animated undead. It’chy himself being one of the creatures now. The party overcomes the creatures and take It’chy’s body. He is given a burial with rites on the low tide muck lands that serve as the city’s pauper graveyard.
